i think for me it was the time i saw my dad shun his brother who he had not seen in decades just because he was a da'ed jw.

During his tenure the former Pope Benedict dismissed hundreds of pedophile priests for child abuse. Very often, however suspected clergymen were displaced, and allegations of abuse were covered up. Pope Franziskus wants to change that:

The head of the Catholic Church wants to set up a court to fight against abuse cover up.
The court is to prosecute bishops who covered up cases of sexual abuse by clergy in their dioceses.

I think JWs should petition the GB to do the same thing for COs and DOs who cover up child abuse among the congregations. The only problem is that the R&F JWs do not even know that there is a problem. But I do consider this a very positive thing for the Catholic Church to be doing.

Cart Witnessing - Thrilling! Productive! Epic! Er.....um, well, not so much.....

talked with a pioneer recently, she was recounting her first experience with cart witnessing.. she brought the subject up, was going on & on & on & on about how wonderful the experience was, and how great, and how she enjoyed it so much, and it was so wonderful, and oh jehovah's blessing, and on and on and on...... a few questions to her revealed what really happened:.

-- a jw who owns a small restaurant in a strip mall allows jws to set up their cart outside his restaurant.

-- the restaurant is tucked pretty far out of the way, not prominent at all.

When looking at this application 1 Co. 13:4,5 comes to mind.
The application is clearly going against this bible text concerning "keeping account of the injury".

Just more rules and going beyond the things written.

why are only pioneers allowed to do "metropolitan witnessing"?

why do they need "special training" to stand like a zombie for hours, speaking only to their fellow elite?.

even a pioneer's mother couldn't answer me!.

So I am in Germany and this is what I know about the "Metropolitan witnessing", I did it once.

Each person had to attend a three hour instruction session.

Here is what I can remember.

Some time was spent explaining how the publisher should react if approached by the police or some other authoritative figure, what the laws are regarding this type of work and other relevant legislative problems that could occur when doing this type of work.

Where and when the carts are to be picked up and brought back and the shift changeover.

Where to stand and where not to stand with the carts, and basically in Germany they cannot be in one location for more than 15 mins. so they are always on the move.

How to react if anybody acts aggressively towards them, one of the things that was stressed was not protect the carts or the literature if anybody deliberately tries to do damage, but to call the police. Any incident should also be reported back to the elders.

Another thing is that they are not to try and engage anybody in conversation, this is something that many here have commented on, but they really are instructed not to do so. Exception being when they are approached, then they can have a conversation.

But the time I did do this, I though what an absolute waste of time.

i started posting on the ex community about five years ago since two of my children have remained under the jw spell.

back then i had little tangible hope of seeing the downfall of the org.

i now see evidence of big cracks forming in their hermetic carapace..

It really pissed me off, and I did cry after realizing that they took away 28 years of my life.
I am still recovering with councilling and professional help.
